New Visa Data Matching Program November 23, 2011— The Commissioner of Taxation in Australia has issued a notice regarding a data matching program that will identify any taxation fraud and/or non-compliance from visa holders. The notice reads: “The ATO will request and collect names and addresses and other details of entities who have applied for all temporary residence visas including, amongst others, 457 and 417. These will be electronically matched an analyzed with certain sections of the ATO data holdings to identify potential refund fraud and other non-compliance with lodgment and payment obligations under taxation law. Records relating to individuals who applied for and were granted temporary residence visas will be matched.” Companies should ensure they are paying the guaranteed earnings required by the 457 visa approvals and the correct superannuation, including exceptions, which should be noted in an assignee’s file. |
