U.S. Transferee Confidentiality Requests

October 19, 2011— The protection of your personal information is of high concern to AIReS. U.S. Customs requires you to provide your full legal name and address for the customs clearance of your household goods shipment(s). The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), under U.S. Federal Register 19 CFR 103.31, is permitted to provide shipment related information to third-party vessel manifest information companies and websites. This information could include your name, addresses, and sailing information, which may be posted on internet by third-party manifest websites.

The CBP has created an email portal at Privacy.cbp@dhs.gov through which AIReS customers may apply for confidentiality to prohibit disclosure of your private information. We encourage you to send an email request to CBP. Since this information is your personal data, AIReS is not permitted to complete the request on your behalf. 

Follow these steps to request confidentiality of your personal shipping data:

Email Privacy.cbp@dhs.gov and include:

  • Your full name as listed on your passport
  • Also list any variations of names to be protected (i.e. If you name is William Bruce Smith, Bruce Smith may be a variation)
  • Your complete U.S. Address including city, state, and zip code
  • Phone numbers in case CBP wishes to contact you
  • Your email address
  • List the subject of your email as: “Request for Confidentiality of Personal Shipping Data”

    • If you prefer not to email, the request for confidentiality may be faxed to (202) 325-0152 or mailed to:

    An email confirmation from U.S. Customs and Border Protection will be sent to you within a week after receipt.

    Confidentiality requests are good for two years and pertain to import and export data confidentiality.  After two years, the request may be renewed.
