Strike in Israel Suspends Immigration

February 10, 2012— Israel’s main public sector labor union strike has led to a suspension of all immigration processing. Israeli immigration authorities are not accepting or adjudicating work permit or visa applications at this time. Likewise, Israeli consular posts are not accepting immigration benefit applications, though they are still issuing passports to qualifying Israeli nationals as of this writing. Other government services, including banks, airports and railways have also ceased operations due to the strike.

Currently, there is no indication how long the strike will last. Lengthy processing delays are expected for employers and their foreign workers after the strike ends, due to application backlogs that will develop during the strike.
